Activity or Strategy Description:
This is a morning check-in/connect with peers activity. It started out as an activity to encourage the expressive and receptive language skills of primary students, but it really helped develop classroom community. As soon as students come into class they "check-in." Each student has a clip and on the clip is a shape. There are 2 of each shape in the class. The students have to find their partner (matching shape or whatever) and then ask and answer a morning question. I made the questions refer back to reading/math/science of the day before or to start energizing for the day. Students turn to talk and then report out about their partner's answers. It made students talk to new students and learn new things about each other.
