Activity or Strategy Description:
Preview a novel or introduce a new content area topic with a picture book to build on students' prior knowledge: (1) Ask students to write what they know about the topic being introduced; (2) Discuss; (3) Tell them that you are going to read a picture book to show them where you are personally coming from; (4) Discuss; (5) Continue to relate back to the picture book during the course of the novel or content instruction.
