Materials or Resources:
Guided questions for partners
Preparation:
Prepare an interesting question, mathematical phenomenon, or result to encourage discussion that relates to the lesson.
Activity or Strategy Description:
This activity is a good way to begin a lesson and engage students in the day's topic. Have a brain teaser, surprising result, intriguing question, or an observed common error on the board. Ask students to get with their partners. Assign a person to be the interviewer. The interviewer is given a set of guided questions to ask the interviewee and designed to arrive at a solution, discuss the problem, or brainstorm possible solutions. Both team members must answer the questions on their questionnaire. After adequate time, discuss the groups' findings as a class.
