Title Educate, Not Incarcerate. Help Students Make Good Educational Choices
Schedule
Session D - Wednesday, 10:15 - 11:15 AM Vista 1
Presenter(s)
Debra Sernus, Teacher, IEA
Summary Thousands of teenage law breakers have been tried as adults and sentenced to adult prisons, without much consideration of their age or circumstances of the offense. Too many of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. At-risk teens have difficulties managing the emotional, social and psychological turmoil that would challenge many adults! Without effective intervention and educational support from teachers and other education personnel, these students may never find their true potential. This session will offer suggestions on how to reach out to those students who need support and guidance.
