Title Orchestrating Classroom Conversations
Schedule
Session A - Tuesday, 10:25 - 11:25 AM Plaza I & II
Presenter(s)
Patti Tylka, Consultant, Illinois Reading Council & DuPage ROE
Summary Research reveals that student-to-student academic conversation (cooperative learning) produces higher achievement, longer retention, increased motivation, and improved social skills. However, successful implementation of cooperative learning is more than seating students together or saying, “Turn to your partner and discuss . . .” It must be carefully planned and executed. This active engagement session will provide practical suggestions for managing active classrooms, including ideas for forming duos and groups, increasing student by-in, and getting one hundred percent student participation. Procedures will be modeled.
