Summary Ingersoll points to one of the three major concerns from beginning teachers is their ability to relate and teach a diverse student population and diverse parent community. Intercultural competency is a viable skill for beginning teachers to learn how to communicate with a diverse student and parent community. Intercultural competency training teaches individuals what is intercultural competency, shows them where they are individually on the intercultural continuum, and how to increase their intercultural communication. Come and learn the research supporting one school district’s strategy for increasing new teachers intercultural competency and preparing new teachers for the 21st Century.
