5th Annual INTC Induction and Mentoring Conference

"Digging Deeper: Using the Induction and Mentoring Continuum for Program Advancement"

New teacher induction and mentoring was the focus of a statewide conference Feb. 23-24 in Springfield, Ill., the fifth annual conference organized by the Illinois New Teacher Collaborative (INTC).

Nearly 350 educators and policymakers from diverse contexts (urban, suburban, and rural) and all parts of the state attended the event, “Digging Deeper: Using the Induction and Mentoring Continuum for Program Advancement.”

The conference was interactive and team-oriented, offering networking opportunities for beginning, developing, and defined teacher mentoring programs from around the state to learn from each other. This event showcased ideas, strategies and tools to help new teachers, teacher mentors and administrators learn more about induction and mentoring programs.

Team Work Sessions Conference participants worked together in their induction program teams to utilize the Continuum to guide future program improvements. Three separate sessions occurred during the Conference. Download the work session documents for use in guiding future formative assessment work.
Critical Issues Breakout Sessions Conference participants selected three out of 35 session options to attend based on interest. View a list of session options and download presentations and handouts where available.
Stage-Alike Breakouts Conference participants broke into small groups based on their locale (rural, urban, and suburban) and then sub-divided into smaller groups based on program stages of development (beginning, developing, and defined) for facilitated discussion. Minutes from these session were recorded and posted (forthcoming) in INTC Online's "Discussions of Practice" for ongoing discussion.
Role-Alike Breakouts Conference participants broke into small groups based on their roles within induction and mentoring programs (new teachers, mentors, support providers, administrators, and higher education) for facilitated discussion. Minutes from these session were recorded and posted (forthcoming) in INTC Online's "Discussions of Practice" for ongoing discussion.
World Café In round-robin fashion, participants rotated through three stations for 15 minute facilitated discussions in groups of ten or fewer. Outcomes from these discussions have been posted (forthcoming) in INTC Online's "Discussions of Practice" for ongoing discussion. During this session, participants discussed how they will use the Illinois Induction Program Continuum to develop and assess their induction and mentoring programs, and they focused on how they will involve stakeholders in the process.
Exhibits The Tuesday evening reception and exhibit session proudly showcased the work of 39 induction programs and five vendors. View a list of exhibitors and vendors who were present.
