Key Ideas
The authors reports “findings from a study of the preinduction and postinduction levels of confidence of novice teachers in a structured Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment induction program” (p. 28).
The results indicated that beginning teachers made substantial and significant gains in 11 out of the 28 areas surveyed.
The group of teachers surveyed “began their careers with admirable levels of confidence on a variety of measures of teaching skills, behaviors, and attitudes that indicate strong preservice preparation. Over a 2-year period in a structured induction program, they developed even higher levels of confidence in their teaching abilities” (p. 37).
Respondents indicated that their 2 years of induction support “added value to their classroom practices” (p. 38).
